Energy Efficient LED Examination Lights improve Patient Experience
16th April 2010 ? Welch Allyn has today launched a new range of energy efficient examination lights that use LEDs in place of conventional halogen bulbs, to produce a brighter, white light that improves visualisation of the examination area without the long term concern for bulb replacement.

The ?Green Series? medical examination lights have a low energy requirement, making them a ?greener? alternative to conventional bulbs and helps contribute towards the Government target of reducing carbon emissions by 26% by 2020.

Each LED has an expected life span of 50,000 hours compared to the lifespan of 3,000 hours for a halogen bulb, offering surgeries and hospitals cost savings up to ?990 per light2.
The LED bulbs used in the examination lights generate less heat, increasing patient comfort and safety. The innovative technology provides true tissue colour rendition and prevents the appearance of dark or hot spots during patient examination.

The lights all feature ?touchless? on/off controls, reducing contact with the lights; the ergonomic design also makes the lights simple to clean. Green Series Exam Light IV is compatible with Welch Allyn disposable sheaths to further reduce the risk of cross contamination.

Jan McMeekin, UK Marketing Manager, Welch Allyn comments: "The LED technology of the ?Green Series? not only provides energy saving examination lighting but can also improve patient comfort. Halogen bulbs can get very hot and this can be uncomfortable for the patient during examinations. The expected life span of the LED lights is 50,000 hours compared to 3,000 hours for a halogen bulb making them cost efficient as well as energy efficient."

"The new Green Series demonstrates the commitment at Welch Allyn to providing innovative, high performance and cost effective equipment. The range of LED examination lights offers a solution for all healthcare environments, whilst also helping to increase accuracy and performance for the healthcare professional."

There are four lights in the Green Series; firstly the GS Exam Light IV provides pinpoint accuracy with 3x typical light output making it suitable for specialities which require focused light. Whereas the GS 300 General Exam Light has a compact design and rugged performance making it perfect for any in office examination.

The GS 600 Minor Procedure Light has three LEDs giving a larger head for enhanced accuracy, to meet the demands of examination in any healthcare environment. The larger GS 900 Procedure Light features six LEDs and seamlessly combines durability with manoeuvrability, this light can also be ceiling mounted to free up floor space during a procedure.
